Welcome to our newest member Audlem Cricket Club.

Audlem Cricket Club is the newest member of the league, and by way of a welcome, we interviewed Simon Swift Audlem’s secretary to find out a bit more about them.

Simon says  “The club was delighted to have their application to join the NSSCL accepted. We have started a recruitment drive aimed to attract local and junior players in particular to our club.”

As well as looking to attract new local players, Audlem boasts their own own ‘Broad’ ‘Anderson’ opening bowling partnership of Simon Swift (427) and Callum Mcilveen (341). Still in their 20’s have taken a total of 768 wickets between them for Audlem including bowling a side out for 19 Swift 8-12 Mcilveen 2-7.

Captain Chris Shenton has recovered from knee surgery which kept him out of the whole of the 2019 season. He is the club’s all-time leading run-scorer with 4777 runs including a 36 ball century.

Simon wants to rebuild and re-establish, their hopes for the season is to hopefully push to finish in the top half of the table. He’s mindful though, as they have never played against many of the clubs, it’s going to be challenging to predict a league position this early.

Audlem is the most southern ground in the county of Cheshire and offer a picturesque venue to play cricket. Last season they were proud that the Cheshire Cricket League umpires and grounds committee ranked our pitch as in the top 10 in the county.

He says that anyone visiting can expect to score big with the help of a very inviting short straight boundary into the field.

Within their ranks, they do have a famous face. Legendary Stoke TV personality Nick Hancock is a member of the club and often turns out for the Sunday side.

It’s great to have them on board, and we wish them well for the season.
